Your Glow back after winter.
Anyone else ready for some warmer weather? Wherever you are in the world, we all know how long winter can be. Here in L.A, 2022 was the 8th wettest season in 145 years, and 2023 so far is L.A’s wettest season in 18 years. We thought February was it, but March was our wettest in 45 years. If you are like me and are feeling a bit dull after this winter, keep reading because here are some tips for a seamless post Winter Glow-up!
Get out and get some sunshine! Did you know that at least 40% of Americans are deficient in Vitamin D? Yikes. Vitamin D is crucial for maintaining a healthy immune system, bones, teeth, metabolism, and balancing your mood. It is also plays a huge role in your energy and focus. Some foods contain Vitamin D naturally, and others are fortified with it. Unfortunately, those that contain it naturally are not Vegan. So, get out there Vegan, and get some sun! The best time to really soak in the most of that Vitamin D, is noon and you only need 15 min.
Hydrate! I know I don’t drink enough water when it’s cold. I personally tend to move more towards hot coffee or tea. So, I’m feeling a bit dry after this season. The answer is… ch-ch-ch-chia! Did you know that adding chia seeds to your water, can help with regulating fluid levels and also help with absorbing electrolytes? Chia seeds absorb thirty times their weight in water. They are also high in fiber. We like to soak some chia seeds in a glass of water over night, and by squirting some lemon juice into it the glass in the morning, can actually help with morning excretion, (we didn’t know how else to say it) overall digestion, and it’s alkaline!
3. Drink some fresh juice! Being anemic, I can tell you firsthand how much a simple beet and carrot juice has changed my life. Juice gives your digestive system a break, so your energy reserves can focus on other functions of your body that may have been neglected. Also, because those nutrients are in liquid form, they have an easier time finding a home in your cells. However, make sure you opt for ORGANIC fruits and veggies. The benefits are in the quality of the ingredients and also the timing. So chug that sucker back! Any store-bought juices that have been HPP’D or have preservatives, really don’t have the same benefits as a fresh juice has. Check out our juice menu here!
My recipe for my Iron rich, liver cleanse:
2 medium sized red beets-Great for detoxifying the
3 small carrots
1 lemon
one small handful of cilantro
and add as much celery as you like.
a dash of cayenne pepper.
4. Adding micro greens into your life! Micro greens are superfoods, and rich in many nutrients that will not only help absorb all of the nutrients from the other foods you are eating but, are also very bio available.
5. Eating fruits and Veggies that are in season. Not only are they more flavorful, but they are also more nutritious. Cherries, Strawberries, Apricots and Apples are in season currently. Strawberries contain a lot of Vit C, and we all know that Vit C is crucial for collagen production. Strawberries will help you glow from the inside out. Cherries contain melatonin, so they are great as a night cap to for a more restful beauty sleep. Yay for sleep! Really looking into what is in season right now as far as crops will be a game changer.
Some fruits and veggies that are currently in Season: Cherries, Strawberries, Apricots, Apples, Rhubarb, Carrots, Celery, Broccoli, Asparagus, Garlic… and so much more! Spring is pro GLOW!
